Convergence Science and Innovation for Future-Proof Sustainable Food Systems

This session is presented under the theme novel technologies and innovations, and it one of two related proposals organized in collaboration with IFT’s Sustainable Food System division. It is designed to address the research question: What innovations will prepare us for the next crisis? It is chaired and organized by V. Orsat, leading bioengineering scientist. The program will feature a visionary leader driving technical innovation in a global ingredient and food company (Zhong, ADM), bringing to bear the most cutting advance in biological, product formulation, and processing technologies and technologies to contribute to the creation of economically viable sustainable innovation. The second presenter (Dube, McGill) will article and present the food convergence science and innovation (FCI) approach that aims to drive the conversations and collaborations to accelerate a world reset from the traditional Economic Convergence i.e. The Rest converging with the West) to Convergence of resources in innovation – where human health, planetary health, and sustained, inclusive prosperity can be achieved.  FCI is anchored on a shared vision of inclusive and sustainable Food Systems that benefit from a whole of society approach to the Convergence or resources in innovation to ensure the health of humans and the planet, where sustained and inclusive prosperity can be achieved. FCI is building capabilities and offerings to adapt and evolve according to the assets and needs of each food systems innovation ecosystem context: (1) to promote the integration of food systems and their digital information; (2) to provide behavioral context and market insights to support adoption of innovation; and (3) integrate technical and strategic advisory support for suitable action for food convergence innovation. Speakers: Laurette Dubé, PhD, Dina Fernandez
