Demand Surges for Sustainable Packaging Enter Circular Solutions for Plastics

Food and beverage companies around the world are rushing to meet customer and consumer demands as well as previously-set ambitious global sustainability and ESG goals. Packaging, specifically widely-used plastic that food and beverage industries rely on, is often in the crosshairs of those who are asking for more sustainable solutions. However, an innovative circular recycling process turns the plastic used in food and beverage packaging into brand new material - keeping it off the land, out of oceans and out of our landfills.   Richard Shaw, Director of Circular Solution and Sustainability at AmSty, a leading integrated producer of polystyrene plastic, will detail how the company is forging ahead with a revolutionary circular technology that takes used polystyrene products and returns them to the same product with their original quality and durability. That used take-out container can be recycled into a new take-out container again and again and again. It’s a process that makes polystyrene one of the most carbon-friendly packaging solutions.   AmSty is moving forward with the innovation, having recycled the equivalent of millions of foam cups to date. Shaw will discuss the partnerships making it happen and the steps required for circular recycling to meet food and beverage company needs – with the hopes that one day polystyrene, and all plastics so vital to our everyday lives, will be continuously recycled. Speaker: Richard Shaw
