NIFA funding programs in food safety priority areas fund meritorious proposals of research, extension and/or education in a broad area of chemical contaminants (heavy metals, microplastics, etc.), risk-based analysis, FSMA Section 204, food safety-sustainability tradeoffs (i.e., co-management of food safety and sustainability goals, antimicrobial use vs antibiotic resistance, biodegradable packaging vs shelf-life), risks in food supply chains, challenges and opportunities with regional or global regulations and standards, etc. In addition to standard proposals, NIFA supports New Investigators, Strengthening, Seed, Food and Agriculture Science Enhancement (FACE) as well as conference proposals.
