With Edelman’s trust data, we’re seeing a public perception of promises made but not kept and CEOs, especially food & beverage company CEOs, are among the least trusted climate spokespeople. Government is more trusted than business to do what is right in addressing climate change and ultimately mistrust in our food system, based on unlimited financial resources and regulatory authority, but is hamstrung by the majority-held belief that politics, not science, is driving food policy. The consumer is on the sidelines, paralyzed by confusing data, concerned about a joyless future, and not convinced that current food solutions are positively impacting society. We’ll talk through examples of ways to move the needle and diminish mistrust (for example, by Ajinomoto Health and Nutrition, and other brands doing work in this space).
